Left or Liberal? Know the Difference.

In today's society, if someone tells you that they have Liberal views, one would conclude this person is likely a Democrat, right?

Here's why this assumption would be invalid and how Leftist and Liberalism differ.

1) RACE

Liberal position: "The color of a persons skin is insignificant" - and those who believe race is significant, is a racist.

Left position: Totally opposite of above statement, University of California lists the statement "There is only one race, the human race" as racist.

Liberals have always been passionate on racial integration whereas the Left pushes racial segregation (such as all black dorms, separate black graduations, etc).

2) CAPITALISM

Liberal position: Pro Capitalism. They believe in free enterprise and believe Pro Capitalism lifts people out of poverty. It is true that Liberals do want the government to play a bigger role in the economy than Conservatives do but they do not oppose capitalism and were never for Socialism.

Left position: Opposition to Capitalism and advocates for Socialism

3) NATIONALISM

Liberal position: Believe in the Nation-State

Left position: Divides people by class rather than national identity & oppose Nationalism.

Therefore the Liberal position would be to protect the American borders, while the Left is for open boarders.

Example - When Superman was written by Liberal writers, Superman was a proud American

(his motto was"Truth, Justice, and the American way"). This all changed when Left-Wing writers took over the script, Superman renounces American citizenship to be a citizen for the world ("Better that we should all be citizens of the world in a world without boarders").

4) VIEW OF AMERICA

Liberal position: Patriotic. Watch American films from the 1930s - 1950s, they celebrate America and show overt patriotism (mainly all produced, acted, and directed by Liberals). Liberal position agrees with Lincolns statement "America is the last, best hope of Earth".

Left position: Believes the Left is the last, best hope of Earth, not America.

5) FREE SPEECH

Liberal position: No one in history has defended this statement more than Liberals, "I wholly disapprove what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it".

Left position: Leading the first wide spread suppression of free speech in modern American history. However claims to only oppose (what they consider) hate speech.

6) WESTERN CIVILIZATION

Liberal position: Have always sought to protect Western Civilization. The most revered Liberal in American political history is Franklin Roosevelt who often cited that we need to protect Western Civilization and even Christian civilization. Yet, when President Donald J. Trump spoke of protecting Western Civilization in Warsaw (2017), the Left-Wing Media (aka Mainstream Media) denounced him.

Left position: Argue that Western Civilization is no better than any other and that Western Civilization is just a euphemism for white supremacy

You may be wondering, well..

if Liberalism and Leftism is so different, why don't the Liberals oppose the Left?

In a nutshell, they have been told all of their life to fear the Right.

Well know Liberal and Harvard Law Professor, Alan Dershowitz said "as a liberal, an American, and as a Jew... I far more fear the Left than the Right".
